Our Green Policy Statement
At Brean Park we care about the environment and long term sustainability. We are undertaking the following actions in order to achieve this:
- We comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and approved codes of practice.
- We believe that it is important to act responsibly to preserve and maintain both the global and more immediate environment so that it can be enjoyed by future generations.
- We are committed to preserving our beautiful environment in Cornwall sharing it with others whilst minimising the impact of our activities.
- Brean Park is member of CoaST Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project and Green Tourism Business Scheme.
- CoaST actively works with businesses in Cornwall to help make tourism as sustainable as possible. GTBS provides accreditation and encouragement for sustainable tourism together we hope to make a difference.
- Brean Park is currently in conversion to organic status with the Soil Association.
- We aim to make Brean Park as environmentally friendly as possible for future generations, improving wildlife habitats, flora and fauna.
- Brean Park serves our community wherever possible by supporting local producers, restaurants, pubs, clubs, tourist attractions, shops, transport, employing locally and hiring services, where local is not possible we support fairtrade products.
At Brean Park we would like to ask you to help us by considering your environmental impact and where possible to :
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle wherever possible
- Use the environmentally friendly cleaning products provided
- We encourage sustainable tourism by the provision of some bicycles,
- the train station is just minutes away and walking we provide information on low impact activities.
- Please use the jute CoaST bags when out shopping.
- Please support local food producers, restaurants, cafes, businesses and crafts.

Our Commitment to Green Tourism
Brean Park is set in SE Cornwall and enjoys stunning scenery and breathtaking views of Lanhydrock House and gardens.
We appreciate living and working in such a beautiful area the farm is currently in conversion to organic and we farm beef and sheep.

Preserving our beautiful environment in Cornwall whilst at the same time running a business that encourages more people to enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer is a challenge and responsibility.

Brean Park is a small family run business we care about the environment and long term sustainability and aim to make Brean Park as environmentally friendly as possible for us and future generations. Our self catering property is a fantastic way of allowing people to share this wonderful area, we have taken great care to improve wildlife etc and this will only continue to improve as we go further into organic status.
Social and Communication
Brean Park has a strictly no smoking policy.
Our water is sourced from a borehole on the farm it is regularly tested by Caradon District Council and is treated with a UV filter instead of the use of chemicals.
Brean Park has teamed up with Cornish Real Nappy Project www.crnp.org.uk
To save young families bringing disposable nappies with them on holiday please let us know and we will arrange either a trial bucket or some nappies to be at the property when guests arrive.
Energy
The property has underfloor heating in the kitchen and dining/lounge this can be thermostatically controlled there is also a woodburner which uses fallen wood.
The bedrooms and ensuites all have radiators which are controllable and double glazing.
Purchasing
We supply guests with a selection of toiletries from So Soapy who are a small local company who use natural products.
We believe in buying locally wherever possible but if this is not possible we support fairtrade products
Our welcome baskets contains a wealth of local produce from fudge to jams and marmalades. Fresh bakery bread is provided and all sausages and bacon etc are purchased from our local butcher who uses only Cornish animals. We are strong believers in giving guests a true taste of Cornwall and produce being as local as possible. Milk, cream and butter comes from our neighbour at Trewithen dairy and scones are freshly baked in the farmhouse for guests prior to arrival.
A separate freezer is located in the shed with an honesty pot this is locally produced Treleavens Icecream which is available at top quality restaurants and Treleavens shops in Cornwall a chance to taste Cornwall for every pot sold we will donate 10p to Cornwall wildlife Trust.
Information is given on local events happening during their stay, tourist information contacts, websites for eating out, home deliveries of shopping we are very fortunate to have many small local producers of award winning food in Cornwall

Shops around Lostwithiel offer wonderful quality fayre and crafts and Mount Folly Framers just opposite Mount Folly Tourist information centre offers Cornish produce.

Another interesting shop is at Lanhydrock House which is just a walk away stocking lots of wonderful local produce and crafts.

At Brean Park last year we planted an orchard using some native breeds including an apple called pigs nose type
At Brean Park we actively promote our wealth of local produce and the many great food outlets from cafes, tea rooms to bistros and restaurants at Lostwithiel we have several good eating places.
At Brean Park we source locally where ever possible but such products as coffee we insist on faretrade. We believe in supporting local tradesmen and craftsman and keep it local.
We have a policy of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle wherever possible.
Our purchases are done locally and wherever possible we try to avoid surplus packaging.
We ask that our guests can follow the simple steps set out by CoaST to reduce impact on the enviroment.
We compost at Brean Park and provide guests with a caddy under the sink.
We ask our guests to recycle as much as possible using the bags provided and to separate into the correct bags as this saves us time.
The location of Brean Park means that days can be spent on the various walks adjacent or on the farm.
Bodmin parkway train station can be accessed across fields but for a less muddy option can be accessed by road. Guests can opt to leave the car at home and we can collect you from the station or reduce the number of cars as the property sleeps 8 some of the group may appreciate allowing someone else to get the to Cornwall the train line runs from Paddington to Penzance and so collecting some of the group from the station might start the holiday with that Feel Good Factor.
The property has 3 bicycles in the garden shed which is part of the property complete with helmets and other bicycles can be hired from both Bodmin and Wadebridge.

There is a range of public transport information in the property from buses, train timetables and park and rides. There is information on the Looe Valley Line and the Tamar Valley also the Maritime Line Rail Ale Trail Truro-Falmouth
We have many leaflets on leaving your car at the property and also 101 things to do on a rainy day.
Why not set yourself a challenge to have at least one car free day on your holiday there are plenty of ideas for walks, cycles and using public transport in the property to plan your day.
Natural and Cultural Heritage
At Brean Park we encourage guests to visit Lanhydrock House which is a National Trust property the view from the property is of the parkland and House
Guests are encourage to enjoy the walks and visit the house and gardens whilst we support the shop with purchases of cards etc
We advise guests of local events happening during their stay especially of a cultural nature.
At Brean Park we have installed bird and bat boxes to encourage wildlife. Everyone can enjoy the night sky at Brean Park which for some who live in built up area with light pollution is a new experience.
